Continuing Education/Professional Development
Share |

Part of MOTA’s mission is to enhance the professional development of its members and one way we do that is by providing ongoing continuing educational opportunities throughout the year, in addition to the Annual Conference. MOTA holds training across the state to ensure that we reach out to professionals where they live and work.

Licensure Requirements

In order to maintain or renew a Minnesota license, an OTR needs a minimum of 24 contact hours in two years. An OTA needs a minimum of 18 contact hours in two years.

Continuing Education

Many questions still exist regarding the AOTA Approved Provider status and how it relates to MOTA and NBCOT requirements. Here is some information that AOTA provided.

There are many benefits for being an AOTA Approved Provider.

While it is correct that NBCOT has no AOTA continuing education requirements, there are several areas with NBCOT certification renewal that can be done via continuing education AND, NBCOT automatically accepts CEUs from CE activities that are offered by AOTA Approved Providers. CEUs given by AOTA Approved Providers can be "translated" into PDUs — you'll need to contact NBCOT to determine how many CEUs are equal to PDUs.

Continuing education activities taken by an AOTA Approved Provider will be automatically accepted by 19 state regulatory (licensure) boards for licensure renewal; Minnesota is one of those states, which means that any continuing education offered by MOTA will automatically be accepted by the Minnesota licensure board for licensure renewal.

The other states that automatically accept CE taken from AOTA Approved Providers are: Alaska, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Vermont.

Another benefit is that MOTA can list their continuing education activities in CE WebFind, which AOTA’s searchable database for all continuing education is offered by Approved Providers. This database is searchable by members and non-members and may help MOTA in marketing their continuing education activities.
