Why Give to MOTA?

When considering your offering of financial support to your professional organization, either via membership or a separate independent donation, ask yourself these questions:

  • Who is there to answer my questions regarding practice and billing?

  • Who is there to provide in-state, low or no cost CE to advance my knowledge and that meets my licensure needs?

  • Who protects my professional right to practice?

  • If I personally and professionally benefit from an organization’s efforts, should I not help support the financial burden that goes with it

The Minnesota Occupational Therapy Association’s mission is to serve the profession of Occupational Therapy in multiple ways; in support to its members in their day to day practice, to provide quality continuing education opportunities, and to provide for the needed protection and guardianship of our practice are the main efforts that are financially sustained through the association’s membership dues.
MOTA is the only entity that provides for a lobbyist and protection of the profession for Occupational Therapists in the state of Minnesota. Our ability to provide and bill for services as Occupational Therapists is based on and protected by our practice act, a document that is approved by the legislature of MN. Though this document is enacted by law, its presence alone does not ensure protection without concerted efforts to stay alert and responsive to legislation by other professional groups that encroaches on our practice act.  MOTA employs a lobbyist and has a Governmental Affairs Committee, which meets monthly for this purpose. All Occupational Therapists in Minnesota benefit from this protection. Within the last year, 4 different professional organizations proposed legislation that would negatively impact our scope of practice. Who addressed these issues and successfully lobbied to protect our profession?  MOTA.

Membership to your professional association brings a multitude of opportunities for personal and professional growth.  Participation in the association’s board allows you the ability to help determine the direction of the profession. You will have the ability to teach and learn from other Occupational Therapists who are vested in your success as a therapist, and membership brings the sense of belonging to a group of professionals who share your journey. You are not alone.

Membership in MOTA is respected as a personal choice Whether or not you choose to be a member, you can still contribute.

Membership in MOTA is acknowledged as a personal choice. Whether or not you choose to be a member, you can still contribute.

Consider donating a yearly pledge to MOTA for support of the continuing education and lobbying efforts the association provides that benefit all Occupational Therapists of Minnesota. A contribution of $40.00 per year recommended. This contribution, as are professional membership dues, is tax deductible.

Contributing to the support of MOTA’s lobbyist and continuing education efforts is one of the best “insurance policies” you can have. You spend large amounts of money every month for car and health insurance, hoping to never use it. This effort you use every year. You may consider this expensive or unnecessary. So is losing your job.
