Course Description:

Presenters share compelling stories of living with mental illnesses and achieving recovery.The presentation includes personal stories from presenter, video clips of other stories, and an opportunity for questions and answers with presenters.Five topics are covered: "Dark Days," "Acceptance," "Treatment," "Coping skills," and "Successes, Hopes, and Dreams." 

 

Speaker Bio:

Vivian Henry, In Our Own Voice Presenter for NAMI Minnesota NAMI Minnesota currently has 40 trained In Our Own Voice presenters. Presenters are people living with mental illnesses and living well in recovery. All presenters have unique and moving stories of success.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify factors in recovery for people with mental illnesses. 
2. Describe what it is like to live with a mental illness and stay in recovery.
3. Identify ways to reduce the stigma of mental illnesses.

Target Audience: OTR, OTA, OTS with interest in mental health OT.
