Course Description: Attendees will be able to identify the role of occupational therapy in the treatment of eating disorders, how to identify potential eating disorders and behaviors in your mental health clients, strategies for referring clients for an assessment if an eating disorder is suspected, basic intervention strategies to support your client who has an eating disorder. Attendees will be able to understand how they can contribute to the treatment and recovery of a client with an eating disorder, the referral process for their clients with an eating disorder, the available resources available to support their clients with an eating disorder. Attendees will be able to develop strategies to support their clients with eating disorders in the areas of ADL/IADL functioning, identify potential eating disorder behaviors, support their client’s eating disorder recovery process and goals.

 

Speaker Bio: 

Melissa Livingston OTR/L has been working in the eating disorder setting at Melrose Center for the past 10 years. She graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Minnesota. Samantha Thayer OTR/L has been working at Melrose Center since June 2016. She graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy from St. Catherine University.

Course Objectives: 

1. Attendees will be able to identify the role of occupational therapy in the treatment of eating disorders.2. Attendees will verbalize strategies to support their clients with eating disorders in the areas of ADL/IADL functioning.

 

Target Audience: OTR, OTA, OTS with interest in mental health OT.
