Learn about the IDDSI, challenges in implementing it, and a hands on lab.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative and its nomenclature.
Describe the rationale for development of the IDDSI (safety, clinical efficiency, commercial implications, development of clinical evidence and conducting research), and how this standardization promotes improved patient outcomes.
Identify where to find more information on use of the IDDSI for solids.
Accurately utilize the IDDSI Flow Test to determine thickening recipe for a variety of consistency liquids utilizing different thickeners.

Speaker Bio:
Nancy Slater OTR/L, CLC, NTMTC, is an Occupational Therapist with over 20+ years of experience who specializes in treating children with complex congenital heart conditions. She is a leader of the Nutrition and Growth learning lab of the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative and is a certified VitalStim therapy provider and certified lactation counselor. She has a passion for feeding and swallowing evaluation and treatment and collaborated with a multi-disciplinary group to implement the IDDSI at Children’s MN.
