Event Description
The value of NBCOT® certification is supported by the organization’s mission to serve the public interest by advancing client care and professional practice through evidence-based certification standards and the validation of knowledge essential for effective practice in occupational therapy.  NBCOT demonstrates these practices by developing, administering, and continually reviewing the certification process based on current and valid standards that provide reliable indicators of competence of the practice of occupational therapy. For those interested, this presentation will provide an update on means to maintain NBCOT certification as well as the importance of continued professional competency. 


Speaker Credentials and Biographies
Barbara Williams is a certified occupational therapist who currently serves as the Associate Director, in the External and Regulatory Affairs Department for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT®) where she has worked for over 7 years. In this capacity, she is responsible for activities related to state regulation, international regulatory services, and community outreach. Previous to employment with NBCOT, Barbara served as Chair and Program Director for an Occupational Therapy Program in Indiana.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
    •    Learn about NBCOT certification and continuing competency benefits
    •    Understand the importance of maintaining competency in the practice of occupational therapy
    •    Increase awareness of the range of evidence-based competency assessment tools and resources for ongoing continuing competency
