Event Description
    •    This presentation is focused on Dual Sensory Loss and its impact on the function and quality of life for older adults. This presentation will review comorbidities, functional impact of DSI, how the hearing and visual systems are interlinked, screening tools, and interventions including hearing aid hacks, assistive technology, and communication tips. 

    •    Multiple pictures of hearing aids and assistive technology to explain the challenges and solutions to making them easier to manage.

Speaker Biography
Kristen Marie-Weber Chang, PP-OTD, MOT, OTR/L, CLT has over 10 years of experience in TCU, ALF, and homecare. Her doctoral work was on occupational therapy’s role in supporting older adults with hearing loss and has published in OT Practice and presented at multiple different universities, state conferences, and 2021 AOTA national conference on the topic.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will…
1. Identify the unique role of occupational therapy to address the functional impact of dual sensory loss on patient’s lives.
2. Summarize the impact dual sensory loss has on function, emotional well-being, and ADL/IADLs on older adults.
3. Apply appropriate screening tools and alternative interventions to support occupation in older adults with dual sensory loss.
