Event Description:
    •    Overview and Goals of Fieldwork (from ACOTE)
    •    History of Emerging Practice
    •    Expectations of Emerging Practice for Fieldwork
    •    Knowledge Translation from classroom to fieldwor
    •    Models for  Emerging Practice FWI and FWII
    ◦    Structuring the experience using OT Process and Integrating the OTPF
    ◦    Population Health v. Individual Health
    •    Panel of students who completed their FWI or FWII in  Emerging Practice will describe the site and population they served, and discuss their experience.

Speaker Biographies:

Diane Anderson, PhD, MPH, OTR/L
Dr. Anderson has been in academia for over 30 years at the University of Minnesota as well as the College of St. Scholastica and St. Catherine University. Her particular interest is developing strategies to address the unmet needs of persons and communities who experience barriers to education and/or health care.

Marlys Gapstur Sand, MA, OTR/L
Professor Sand is currently focusing on supporting Emerging Practice fieldwork experiences and teaching courses that apply foundational knowledge to practice for both St. Catherine University and the University of Minnesota. She is especially interested in supporting human development and student development.

Mike Ausen, OTDS, B.S. Animal Science, is a student at the University of Minnesota. He has a special interest in working with animal-assisted therapy and hand therapy.

Abby Dennis, OTDS, is a student at the University of Minnesota. She has a special interest in working in pediatrics or mental health, and is excited about integrating nature-based OT into her future practice.

Flannery Dolan, COTA/L, is a recent graduate of the OTA program at St. Catherine University. She is currently job searching and is excited to start a career in occupational therapy.

Rachel Evavold, OTDS, is a student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She is interested in working in a pediatric setting but is very open to trying different settings.

Rachel Hadges, OTDS, ATC, is a student at the University of Minnesota OTD Program. She has a particular interest in stigmatized topics that are rarely discussed, such as Sexuality and Spirituality.

Ali (Miller) Pine, OTDS, will graduate from the University of Minnesota OTD program this September. She has  interests in acute care rehabilitation and women's health.

Logan Timbers is a recent graduate of Saint Catherine University Online OTA program. He has a special interest in working with pediatric patients and in a psychosocial setting. He recently started working for Minnesota Independence College and Community where he interned as a student.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
    •    Compare and contrast Emerging Practice Fieldwork with settings with established OT services.
    •    Understand how to translate knowledge from the classroom and lab settings into Emerging Practice Fieldwork
    •    Gain an appreciation of the student experience in Emerging Practice areas.
