The group was developed based on Karen Moore’s Sense-ability group stages, the NeuroSequential Model, Trauma Informed Care, and Sensory Integration and Modulation. As occupational therapy practitioners, we know the importance and power of our routines in grounding and preparing individuals for participation in occupation, yet sometimes it can be hard to teach this concept. This session will explore how to build an experiential group based on routines. Within this time, you will get to experience the group while learning how it was developed, how it is executed in a child and adolescent behavioral health setting, and how it can be applied to your setting even if you are working in other practice areas. Learning Objectives:
1. Identify 2 theoretical models that can guide the establishment of a routine, predictable group 2. Describe how to create a routine-based group for a mental health treatment program 3. Generate 1 idea for routine-based group at your site Speaker's Biographies: Nicole Konz is an occupational therapist with over a decade of experience in the mental health field working across the spectrum of services including forensics, inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive residential, intensive outpatient, and community based.
