Event Description:
This presentation will cove
r occupational therapy's role in wellness, prevention, and health maintenan
ce through food and complementary and alternative medicines. When combined
with efforts to understand racial health disparities, our health education
role can lessen these gaps.
Speaker Biography:
Sheela Ivlev (she/her) is a South Asian occupational therapist specia
lizing in wellness and mental health. She has worked for Stanford Health Ca
re and San Francisco VA Health Care System, San Jose State University as a
clinical educator, and is currently running a wellness-based virtual practi
ce. She has co-authored a chapter on racism in Cara and MacRae's Psychosoci
al Occupational Therapy and has another chapter contribution in progress. S
he has presented at multiple state conferences on racism in the context of
human occupation. She serves on San Francisco's Alternatives to Policing St
eering Committee, California Coalition for Mental Health, and founded a BIP
OC OT Practitioners Group and Directory of Providers to improve support for
minoritized providers and service users.
